Experts Are Betting Big on AI-Driven Decentralized Storage: Insights from Supermoon's BuildHouse Event

During the recent BuildHouse Event by Supermoon featured during ETH Denver, a panel co-hosted by the Oort Foundation, discussed the current state and future trajectory of decentralized storage technologies and its application into the blockchain and web3 space. Moderated by Elena Obukhova, Founder of Supermoon, the panel featured Clara Tsao from the Filecoin Foundation, Stefaan Vervaet of the Decentralized Storage Alliance, and Mike Robinson of the Oort Foundation. The conversation delved into the growth & Influence of  decentralized AI, the impact on storage demand, the evolving adoption among enterprises and startups, the need for integration between storage and compute with solutions like synthetic data sets, and touched on privacy, data integrity, and the potential of blockchain in mitigating scams and fraudulent activities.

Clara Tsao emphasized the growing adoption of decentralized solutions in the enterprise sector, citing the increased demand for data storage driven by applications like AI. "Decentralized cloud is becoming a reality with major enterprises now actively engaging," she noted.

Stefaan Vervaet highlighted the technical advancements enabling the shift towards decentralized architectures. "There’s a significant imbalance in the supply and demand for GPU, which propels the adoption of decentralized compute stacks," Vervaet explained. He added that this shift is not just about technology but also involves creating integration points that can serve real-world applications effectively.

Mike Robinson focused on the consumer angle, suggesting that blockchain could play a crucial role in enhancing data integrity and security, particularly in combating deep fakes. "Our focus is on empowering consumers to participate in the digital economy safely and securely," said Robinson.

The discussion also touched upon the challenges of adoption, with panelists agreeing that education and simplification of the technology are key hurdles. They stressed the importance of making the benefits of decentralized storage comprehensible to a broader audience without overwhelming them with technical jargon.

As the panel wrapped up, it was clear that while there are significant challenges ahead, the momentum behind decentralized storage solutions continues to build. The insights shared at Supermoon’s BuildHouse Event highlight the collaborative efforts needed to drive adoption and address the technical, regulatory, and educational barriers in the space.
